(Chichimec Deity)OPOCHTLI

Ancient Aztec God of fishermen, hunters and snarers, and probably poachers too. Opochtli created fowl traps and fishing nets, but not fish net stockings.

There's an air of mystery about Opochtli, not to mention confusion, and being known as 'he who divides the waters' does little to clarify things. Nor does the fact he has such an impressive arsenal, packing much more fire power than any hunting God could ever need, and thats because he was no ordinary hunting God...

Rumoured to be an aspect of Mixcoatl - the original top war God before the steamrolling Aztecs knocked him off his perch - his weapons were so potent that they broke away and formed a Godly two piece of their own.

Amimitl was the personification of Opochtli's aptly named Amimitl harpoon which looked more like a power drill nailed to an anvil. It's no wonder he was popular with fishermen as it was easily big enough to take down an elephant-fish. Ammitl became patron God of Cuitlahuac and who would argue?

Then there was Atlaua, lord of the Atlatl, which was a kind of slingshot spear, particularly popular with water fowl hunters.

Being a south paw can lead researchers a merry dance and the fact that Opochtli was top God of Huitzilopochco also seems to link him strongly with Huitzilopochtli. There can't be too many left handed Gods in Me-hee-co, though a virtually unreadable poem in the extinct Chichimec language hints they were just good buddies, often spotted tearing it up together... literally.
