(Greek Deity) ACHLYS

Also known as ACHLUS, AKHLYS

Goddess of eternal night and the 'death mist' - a foggy haze that blurs your eyesight just before you give up the ghost.

Achlys is sadness personified and as miserable a creature as you're ever likely too see. Her pin-thin frame is creaking under the sheer weight of dust gathering on her shoulders like chronic dandruff. No wonder she is constantly weeping.

The word is she was there before chaos, which may be a slight exageration. I can only assume that before nothing there was, well, more nothing, but it could explain why she is a complete wreck. With chattering teeth, bloodshot eyes, swollen knees, and dripping nose she has the full set of misery.

Achlys is the crusty old Goddess of poisons too, especially fond of the ones that change people into animals, but probably forgot where she put them as old age tends to play havoc with the memory.

Being so bloody miserable its no suprise to find her image on the shield of Heracles, probably painted on by Hera who tried her best to make him bloody miserable too.
