ALOADAE

The strapping twin sons of Iphimedeia. They were conceived when she fell in love with Poseidon and ladelled sea water into her lap. Yeah, right, i'm sure that's what happened!

When Iphimedeia married Aloeus he raised them as his own but you can imagine his suprise when they grew by nine fingers every month and by the time they were nine years old they were nine fathoms tall. Seemingly, their brains didn't grow in proportion so they saw nothing wrong in piling three mountains on top of each to climb up to Olympus and steal-away Artemis and Hera.

In a completely out of character moment of clarity they did realise the enormity of the task, if not the implications, so they opted to put in a bit of evil twin training first, you know, start small and build up.

They managed to kidknapp Ares and held him captive in a bronze jar, the assumption being thirteen months of capivity would be long enough to make the War God shrivel and die. Their plan came unstuck, however, when they were grassed-up by their own stepmother - Eriboea, and Apollo released him as the twins were embroiled in a bit of sibling rivalry.

Artemis had given Otis the glad eye which made Ephialtes green with envy...

"Why should you get the girl, eh?" screamed Ephialtes

"Cos although we're twins i'm obviously the better looking one" mocked Otus - which didn't help matters.

A great scrap ensued and the crafty Artemis hatched a little plan of her own. Although the two lads were strong and daring the sneaky Goddess gambled on them not being too clever. She transformed herself into a deer and ran betwen the battling brothers where her hunch was confirmed. Neither wanted her to escape so they both took careful aim and shot their spears at her, missing completely and killing each other stone dead.

As a punishment for their stupidity they were tied to a pillar with nasty hissing serpents once they arrived in Hades, where they were perpetually mocked by hoots from the resident owl... 'Twit-Two'
