(Greek Mortal) ANDROMEDA

Mrs Perseus, daughter of Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia.

Cassiopeia was a loud mouth and bragged non-stop about her daughter — 'Andromeda' this, 'Andromeda' that, 'she's even more beautiful than the Nereides.' Oops, that one hit a nerve. Poseidon was married to Amphitrite, the Queen of the Nereides, and took this boasting very personally. In fact, he was so incenced by Cassiopeia's insolence he sent a great flood to ravage the land.

He sent a nasty sea monster called Cetus too, and the King was bullied into chaining his daughter to a sea-side rock by the locals. Apparently this was the only way to rid themselves of Poseidon's curse according to the Ammon branch of Oracles.

Andromeda was rescued by husband-to-be Perseus, just back from Medusa killing duty, and he used the Gorgons head to turn the beast to stone.
