(Titan) ATLAS

Greek God of : Daring, Stamina, Endurance
Attributes : Unknown
Festival Days :
When in Rome : Unknown

One of the Titans. Son of CLYMENE and IAPETUS and older brother of Epimetheus, Mendoetius and Prometheus.

When Prometheus went into fortune-teller mode and spotted the battle of the Gods and his kin-folk, the Titans, coming from a mile away he thought it best not to get involved. This was a wise move. Very bad things happen when you cross Zeus.

Mendoetius and the other bad boys were blasted with thunderbolts then locked in Tarterus, while Atlas, who fought harder than anyone else, was singled out for special treatment... being condemmed to hold a huge globe on his shoulders in every image he appears in. This can lead to much confusion as he doesn't actually hold up the earth, but can you imagine the trouble craftsmen would have carving out the heavens?

Carrying the weight of the heavens, literally, was a thankless task, and boring, and the perpetual mocking of Ladon didn't help. Atlas did get a little break when he struck a deal with a laboring Heracles who was on a mission to find some golden apples and things became a lot easier after Perseus turned him into Mount Atlas with the aid of a severed Medusa head.

Check out the eleventh Labour of Heracles (Coming Soon).
