(Greek Deity) BRITOMARTIS

Also known as APHAEA, APHAIA, DICTYNNA
Greek Goddess of : Hunting and Fishing
Attributes : Unknown
Festival Days :
When in Rome : Unknown

The Nymph daughter of Zeus and Carme much beloved by Artemis. She became a goddess but not before a little hardship.

She loved to hunt but wasn't best pleased when the tables were turned and being persued by King Minos she ran the full length of Crete before flinging herself from the top of Mount Dictynnaeum into the sea.

Luckily, one of her own inventions, the fishing net, broke her fall and she was dragged to Aegine by an unsuspecting fisherman.

Artemis was a big admirer of Britomartis, being an eternal virgin herself, and put her name forward for a God-hood. She became Dictynna (named after the cliff she chucked herself off) the goddess of hunting and fishermen, and while she shares many attributes with the top goddess of hunting i'm sure rumours of a full-on identity theft are a little wide of the mark.
