(Greek Creature) CACUS

Also known as KAKOS

Fire breathing giant son of Haphaestus and Medusa with three heads. He was quite fond of human flavour and would hang the skulls of his favourite snacks on the cave door.

Cacus thought he had engaged his cleverest head when he stole the Geryon cattle and dragged them backwards all the way to his cave in Mount Palatine so there were no tell-tale hoofprints. This turned out to be a monumental error as the cattle were part of Heracles herd. Well, actually, Heracles had just stolen them himself but he was still very upset.

A tip off from the giants disgruntled sister, Caca, led the lion skin clad hero to Cacus's cave with an immoveble boulder for a front door, but it was no problem for the favourite son of Zeus. He simply tore chunks off the surrounding mountain until there was none left.

Cacus belched fire and put up a little resistence but was no match for the eye popping 'knot of Heracles', a refined and patented death grip, and the labouring hero soon chalked-off chapter number ten.

True to the drama queen tendencies of Greeks back in the day Cacus could actually be a common sheppard who was the subject of a little poetic licence, but you never know.
