(Mortal) CAENIS

Also known as CAENEUS

The daughter of Hippea and a Lapith chieftain called Elatus.

Poseidon quite liked the look of Caenis so in true god style helped himself to a little sweet loving and she wasn't impressed.

"Is that all you've got? I mean, you've banged hundreds of women and i've got to be honest .. you're not all that!"

In actual fact, Caenis was so traumatized she begged Poseidon to turn her into a man. She just couldn't face going through it all again. Ever.

Having had his feelings battered and bruised Poseidon felt more than a little guilty, which was completely out of character, and granted her (sorry, his) wish. He also threw in a gift of immunity to any kind of weapon induced harm by way of apology, and after taking a more masculine name Caeneus went off to have many a grand adventure chasing Calydonian boars and the like.

When a Lapith wedding which Caenaes was attending was gate crashed by a bunch of Centaurs, she lost her rag and killed five of them. Being immune to any kind of weapon damage - thanks to Poseidon - the Centaurs eventually buried her under a pile of felled fir trees and boulders.

Everything comes full circle and as Caenaes's life force ebbed away she was seen fleeing the scene having changed back into a bird, albeit of the flying variety.
