(Greek Deity) ERIS

Greek Goddess of : Trouble and Strife
Attributes :
Festival Days :
When in Rome : Discordia

Greek goddess of trouble and strife.

She is the inseperable companion and twin sister of war god Ares and loved to stir up quarrells between unsuspecting parties. Eris is sinister and mean and quite frankly a bit of a bitch.

She was despised by everyone but even the gods tried to hide their hatred of her because if she bore a grudge she bore it for eternity. This is why she was left off the invites list for the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, only the biggest shindig ever held on mount Olympus, which turned out to be a monumental error.

At the height of the festivities she rolled a golden apple engraved with the words 'to the fairest' among the crowd and it was promptly claimed by Hera... and Aphrodite... and Athena. Talk about putting the cat among the pigeons.

All eyes were on Zeus, the king of the gods, to take a hold of the situation and decide which of the three was indeed the fairest. He was strong willed and powerful but not stupid and there was no way he was going to get involved in this one, which was a smart move considering his wife was in the thick of it.

The buck was promptly passed to Paris of Troy and the bribes came thick and fast. Hera offered him unlimited power, Athena unlimited wisdom, and then it was Aphrodite's turn. The sexy goddess pulled out all of the stops, she would've worked what her mama gave her... if she had a mama, but resorted to whispering sweet nothings in his ear, stroking his hand and promising him a woman just as beautiful as her instead. Well and truly whipped into a frenzy Paris handed over the golden apple and Aphrodite pointed him in the direction of Helen...

'Go on, take her, she's yours...'

Unfortunately, Helen of Troy was already married to Menelaus, the King of Sparta, and wasn't exactly happy about being used as a bargaining tool. But a deal was a deal and Paris took her anyway.

This little incident brought about the Trojan war so never underestimate the power of apple.
