GLAUCUS

Also known as GLAUKOS, GLAUKUS
Greek God of : The Sea
Attributes :
Festival Days :
When in Rome :

A mortal fishermen transformed into a sea deity after eating some magic herbs. It's a lucky dip as far as parents go with Copeus, Polybus, Euboea, Anthedon, Poseidon and Neleus all being cited but none accepting responsibility.

Claims that he was a better and more reliable prophet than Apollo may be a little wide of the mark, but pockets full of donations from the grateful masses could explain why he was the only one of the Argonauts to avoid injury when they fought the Tyrrhenians.

Having fallen overboard in the heat of battle he sank right to the bottom of the sea, where, gasping for air he accidently swallowed some divine herbs and became immortal. This was an enormous stroke of luck as he was just about to die, and he became a sea god and protector of the Argo.

Now a blue skinned merman with ginger hair and a tail where his legs should Glaucus had big problems attracting women. He was knocked back by Scylla whom he had a real soft spot for but a trip to the halls of Circe for help caused nothing but trouble.

As it turns out Circe quite fancied Glaucus herself, but hats off to him, he refused to be side-tracked when Circe offered herself up on a plate, unlike most gods of Ancient Greek times.

In hindsight Glaucus should have made his polite excuses and left but a rush of blood had him going into great detail about which impossible natural growths would occur on which parts of the earth before he would give her a second glance.

This was an enormous error as Circe was a skilled alchemist and flew into a fit of wild rage before poisoning Scylla's bath water with some nasty herbs of her own.

See Scylla to find out what happened.
