(Greek Creature) HECATONCHIRES

Also known as CENTIMANI, HEKATONKHEIRES, URANIDS

Three brothers- the hundred armed sons of Uranus and Gaia.

They were named Gyges, the big limbed, Cottus, the striker, and Briareus, the vigorous, which is all very noble but whichever way you look at it being rammed into your mothers arse as soon as you are born is not the most auspicious start to life.

Cronus pulled them out to use as backup when he planned to dethrone Uranus but the joy was shortlived as they went straight back in guarded by the nasty she-dragon Campe as soon as they had done his donkey work.

Waiting patiently along with the Cyclopes, and Hades, and Poseidon and pretty much every other major god, it was left up to Zeus who had escaped consumption thanks to Gaia's crafty rock bun trick, to orchestrate a daring seek and rescue mission. The clash of the Titans was fast approaching and he needed all the help he could get.

Having a hundred arms means you can throw a hundred mountains at a time and the Hecatonchires proved more than a hundred handfuls for the Titans who were trying to mount Olympus. They had fifty heads too but only half a brain between them and Briareus had the lions share of that which kind of made him leader by default.

With the battle won Cottus and Gyges were rewarded with a trip back to Tarterus, this time to guard the defeated Titans and given licence to prod and poke them, while Briareus became Aegaeus and set up a happy home on the bottom of the Aegaean sea with Poseidon's daughter Kymopoleia and the kids Oiolyka and Aitna.

It should have been happily ever afters all round but Zeus fell victim to some rather severe in-house bickering on Olympus and found himself tied up with a hundred un-do-able knots. Apparently Hera, Poseidon, and Athena had ganged up on him because, quite frankly, they were pig sick of his shit and his dodgy one rule for me and another for everyone else attitude was getting right on their nerves. Luckily Thetis managed to get an S.O.Z. to Briareus who came thundering up to Olympus and snapped the knots the way us mere mortals would snap a twig, but despite having a hundred arms the whole situation was diffused without a single punch being thrown... which is no suprise when you consider how big he was.
