(Greek Deity) NEREUS

Greek God of : The Sea
Attributes :
Festival Days :
When in Rome :

Old man of the sea who lived in the depths of the Aegean ocean with with his wife Doris and fifty Nymph daughters, the Nereids.

Like many of the other sea-gods, the son of Pontus and Gaia was prone to outbursts of prophecy, so when Heracles needed directions to the garden of the Hesperides so he could grab him some golden apples, guess who he went to see.

Nereus was also a master shapeshifter, and he took on all kinds of forms in an attempt to avoid dishing out wisdom and knowledge, but Heracles had him in a vice-like grip and he just couldn't shake the big lad off. Realising that struggle was pointless he reluctantly resumed his normal form and told Heracles exactly what he wanted to know. Why didn't he just tell him in the first place?
Family Tree ...
Parents : Pontus and Gaia
Spouse : Doris
