(Greek Deity) PERSEPHONE

Also known as KORE
Greek Goddess of : Springtime, The Underworld
Attributes :
Festival Days :
When in Rome : Prosperpina

Daughter of Zeus and Demeter. She's the goddess of springtime and reluctant Queen of the underworld.

Persephone started her day with the usual flower picking and frollicking in the meadow when all of a sudden a huge crack opened in the ground and out popped Hades the boss god of the underworld, which isn't something you see everyday.

Persephone was nabbed, gagged and dragged to Hades crib and the next thing she knows she's queen of the underworld.

A full-time return to earth was out of the question since she ate a single pomegranite seed, which wouldn't have been a problem if the only witness had been anyone other than Ascalaphus the big mouthed son of Acheron. Still, he was turned into an owl for his tittle-tattling, which serves him right, and a deal was eventually struck by Demeter but only after she wreaked havoc with the seasons.

The Orphics claim she and Hades created the Erinyes, which is a load of old sea foam, but she did gave birth to Melinoe by her underworld hubby, as well as Zagreus, the prototype Dionysus, by Zeus, and is often spotted comparing notes with Triptolemos, the teacher of agriculture.
