To stop them from bursting into flames due to such close proximity to the actual sun, the Gods placed iron cool bellows in the equivalent of the horses armpits, which was a nice thought, and strapped Svalin (the cooler) to the cart to prevent the nastiest case of global warming ever seen.

Daylight was actually generated by the glistening manes of these two steeds, while Sol just gave off heat and took all the credit. It's a thankless job being the sun Gods chauffeur.
