(Mortal)GROA

Having beaten-down Hrungnir Thor made for Thrudelmir to chill out and do something about the pieces of whetstone stuck firmly in his forehead.

It seems his hammer had met the giants shield mid-air and the explosion, as well as smashing the giants head in, had peppered the mead-addicted thunder God with projectile shards.

Luckily, he had heard of an old hag called Groa - not the prettiest by all accounts - but she had a reputation as the 'go-to-girl' if you had long hard stiff things stuck where they shouldn't be stuck.

Thor sat motionless, and speecless too, though he was a man of few words anyway, and as the eery chanting began the shrapnel began to work loose and the mood lightened.

What happened next is one of the great mysteries of Norse mythology and i can only assume that Thor had a serious concussion.

In a most un-Thor-like moment he actually struck up a conversation that didn't involve hammers or mead. Sadly, what he said made absolutely no sense, though i'm sure it had some kind of profound significance back in the day.

Whatever the reason Groa was cock-a-hoop, but her good news was Thor's bad news as she completely forgot the words to her whetstone removal spell and the shards remained embedded in Thors head for all time.
